Brilliant Ways to Use Lighting
By Jo Rossman
Good lighting can do more than simply illuminate your store. A.R.E. Design Awards judges have been rewarding shining examples of lighting for the past five years. Here, we shed light on nine brilliant things the lighting can do for you, as demonstrated by A.R.E. Lighting Award winners.
1. Elevate the status of merchandise. Featured products instantly appear more premium with underlighting – much more so if the display is unique and elevated. An oenophile may shell out big bucks for a dusty bottle of a rare vintage wine in the back of cellar, but many travelers need a visual clue to value before accepting a hefty price tag. At DFS Wine & Cigars at the Four Seasons Hotel Macau, underlit bottles on acrylic elements descending from the ceiling resemble priceless works of art.
